The Colt M1911 is a semi-automatic pistol that has been in service longer than any other semi-automatic pistol in the world and after 102 years of service, there's no need to explain why.
History[]
The Colt M1911 was built by Colt Manufacturing Company in order to create a self loading pistol that wasn't utilizing a cylinder. There were trials to test pistols with the new .45 ACP cartridge, but the trial in 1910 was when the Colt M1911 made it's appearance and fired 1000 rounds within 2 days. When the weapon got hot, it was placed in water and was the success of the remaining pistols.
It was issued to every United States infantry man during World War 2 and it under went many changes to it and later a new model came out named the Colt M1911A1. The Nazis also used this same pistol everytime they could capture them. During Vietnam, the Colt M1911A1 pistol was used by American soldiers in case their Colt M-16 rifles jammed or were out of ammo.
