The M4 Sherman, officially Medium Tank, M4, was the most widely used medium tank by the United States and Western Allies in World War II. The M4 Sherman proved to be reliable, relatively cheap to produce, and available in great numbers. It was also the basis of several successful tank destroyers, such as the M10, Achilles and M36. Tens of thousands were distributed through the Lend-Lease program to the British Commonwealth and Soviet Union. The tank was named by the British for the American Civil War general William Tecumseh Sherman.

Wolfenstein (Machine Games)[]
In Wolfenstein, the M4 Sherman is the Allies' main battle tank, but is obsolete and outdated against any German tank it comes across. When the United States surrendered to the nazis in 1948, the Americans had mostly Shermans in their tank arsenal that could do little against the Third Reich’s machines of destruction. After the war, convoys of rusted m4 tanks lie forgotten alongside the roads of New York, Mesquite and everywhere else in the United States, while a few have been built, restored and modified by the American Resistance to more effectively combat newer German vehicles and even Panzerhunds.
